The performance „The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane“ based on Kate DiCamillo novel is a sensible story about learning to love, feel and be good for the family. It is directed by Gintare Radvilaviciute, Art Director of Klaipeda Puppet Theatre, who is one of the most interesting puppeteers in Lithuania having a special understanding of puppet theatre art.

„The novel by K. DiCamillo appeared in my hands very unexpectedly and charmed me at once. This is a very scenic, suggestive and sensitive story about a porcelain rabbit which is learning to love. Learning to love is about developing a respectful relationship with beloved. Each kind of love is a journey which was and is relevant for everyone. Thinking about the reasons why one is not loved has to be replaced by questions: Who is the one you love? How you love? What you did to make the other feel happier? Love is about giving and sharing without waiting for a response“, – tells G. Radvilaviciute.

The rabbit is so pompous spoiled that it does not care about anything else bout itself. But one day Edward is lost in the ocean. Over time, his faults are stripped away through the series of relationships with strange people. Edward starts its miraculous journey, travels from place to place, experiences friendship, love, longing and fear. That is its way of understanding that its porcelain heart is created for love. „Open your heart and someone will come. Someone will come to you for sure“, – that is the motto of the novel.

This miraculous story is understandable for everyone. It is wordless. The old toys reborn in the performance and speak for themselves.

„Undoubtedly the toys bring us back to the childhood each referring to its’ own story. Each of them dictates the rules of the play, creates development and raises associations. Children are very familiar with the toys but the hands of the professional puppeteers and fragile sounds of the music lift them up to another level and show them from a different perspective. Everyone will be surprised how unexpected, imaginative and interesting puppet theatre is“, – points out Art Director of the performance.
